How Thick Are Cabinet Doors?
How thick are cabinet doors? Cabinet door thickness can vary slightly depending on the style and construction, but most doors follow a few common industry standards.
Most kitchen cabinet doors are around 3/4″ in thickness. At this thickness, the door is strong enough to resist warping and daily wear, while still being light enough for hinges to perform properly over time.
It works, and it has become a common expectation for designers and homeowners across the industry.
Here’s a simple breakdown of the most common sizes by door style.
Slab Door Front (MDF800)
Our MDF800 door style is 3/4″ thick. Slab door fronts are a single, fiberboard surface (made of HDF, despite our product code) with no frame or center panel.
Shaker Door Front (MFP440)
This shaker door is 3/4″ in thickness, measured at the far edge. This door front is a 1-piece door with 3″ stiles and rails.
Raised Panel Door (RP330)
Our raised panel door style (RP330) is available in many wood species and is a solid raised panel door. This style is 13/16″ in thickness, which is just over 3/4″.
Cabinet Door Thickness FAQ's
Is thicker always better for cabinet doors?
Not necessarily. Thicker doors feel more substantial but also add weight and may require upgraded hinges.
Do different door styles have different door thicknesses?
Most will be 3/4″ thick, though there is some variation in size, but not dramatically so.
Does door thickness affect hinge choice?
Yes. Standard concealed hinges are designed around common thicknesses like 3/4″. Significant changes in thickness or door material may require different hardware.
Are European cabinet doors thinner?
Our Zonavita line of European inspired cabinets maintain a 3/4″ door thickness.
