Wall-mounted laundry room cabinets work best when they are designed for your exact room. As a custom cabinet manufacturer, we size every box to your home dimensions and for the way you sort, treat, and fold.

In this simple guide, we’ll help you choose which wall cabinets will work best for your laundry room, whether you go with custom or store-bought cabinets.

Before Wall Cabinets, Start With Your Washer and Dryer

Appliance placement dictates cabinet height, depth, and where the run of cabinets starts and stops. Wall-mounted laundry room cabinets are often added on top of the appliances.

When planning the rest of the cabinets, height and depth should be matched to adjacent cabinets or strategically deeper/shallower. You don’t want many different sized wall cabinets or base cabinets in one room, one or two depths work unless you have a unique space.

  • A standard front load dryer is 27 to 29 inches wide, 36 inches in height and 30 to 35 inches in depth.

Tips to Size Wall-mounted Laundry Room Cabinets

  • Match widths to your appliances. Most machines are 27 inches wide. Plan cabinet seams to land centered on each unit or centered between them.
  • Use cabinet widths that hit studs.
  • Set height by your counter or lid. With a counter, start 18 inches from counter to cabinet bottom. For top-load, clear the open lid plus 2 inches.
  • Keep a small appliance gap. Leave 1 inch total between machines or to a side panel for movement and cord hose clearance.
  • Align cabinet doors for a clean look. Use equal door widths over each machine or one centered pair between them for symmetry.
  • Confirm personal reach. The top shelf should sit where you can reach it without a step stool in daily use.
