Classic Holiday Sugar Cookies from Grandma’s Kitchen

Classic Holiday Sugar Cookies from Grandma’s Kitchen

I love this recipe because we make it religiously every year. It’s a tradition, and it’s a handwritten recipe my grandma created and perfected over the years.

The cookie is the perfect amount of sweetness and comes from the heart. We share lots of memories making these cookies with her and we hope you enjoy this classic holiday treat!

Tips and Tricks from the Kitchen

Before you get started, here are some tips and substitutions you can make to this holiday sugar cookie recipe.

    • Use your favorite holiday cookie cutter for optimal nostalgia.
    • Any icing will work to decorate – store bought or home made!
    • Can substitute butter for the shortening.
    • Can substitute vanilla or plain Greek yogurt for egg.
    • Can use vegan margarine.

Classic Holiday Sugar Cookies

Ingredient List

1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix eggs, vanilla, margarine, and shortening in a bowl.

Add in sugar, salt, and baking powder.

Add in flour 1/2 cup at a time. You want the dough to be soft and moldable. Not sticky, and not flaky. (Save some flour at the end to put on the counter, roller, and cookie cutters.)

Roll out the dough, 1/4in thick.

Cut out your holiday sugar cookies with cutter of your choice.

Bake on parchment paper 1 inch apart on pan at 375 degrees for 7 mins our until golden brown on the edges.

Decorate! Frost, sprinkle and enjoy!
